 Péter Forgács

*1950 (H); studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest; during the 1960s he was influenced by conceptual and experimental art and the Hungarian Fluxus movement; researcher at the Hungarian Sociological Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; 1978 he began working as an independent filmmaker and video artist at the Béla Balázs Studios collaborating with composer/musician Tibor Szemzo; Forgács explores the historical and the cultural via the private. In a series of works entitled «Private Hungary,» Forgács recontextualizes archival home movies and film journals from the past, transforming private documents of everyday lives into haunting narratives of twentieth-century Hungary; lives and works in Budapest (H).
