 Jan Vermeer van Delft

b 1632 in Delft (NL). 1653 member of the Lukas-Gilde, the painters association in Delft. Around 1658 he moves to the house of his mother-in-law, where presumably «The Artist's Studio» was painted. Vermeer was buried in Delft in 1675, without practically ever having left his home town.
