«The Acoustic Backdrop of a Battle in the Radio Station’s Auditorium»

Faust, Part II, performed in the Norag Schauspiel.

Before a single microphone set on a table in the middle of the auditorium, the storyline of Goethe’s Faust, Part II, and the accompanying sounds are heard simultaneously: actors seated at the table recite the text, in which field commanders explain and discuss observing the imperial battle while, to the right, companies of singing commanders, under the direction of an assistant director, march by; others clash swords in the background, and to the left, sound-makers create noises that imitate heavy artillery and galloping horses. The orchestra is in the foreground. At the back is the director coordinating all of the included elements.
