 Charles Ray
«Family Romance»

The group of sculptural pieces entitled »Family Romance« by Charles Ray presents father, mother, boy and girl holding hands. All are represented proportionally but consistently with a height of 135 cm – the parents smaller, the children enlarged. The latter resemble blown-up dwarfs, the former appear in comparison tender and fragile. The family, herd of notions of reproduction, state order and romantic privacy, has become the place of disorder and chaos, transgressing the principles of reproduction.
