Aernout Mik
«Mob»
Aernout Mik works with combinations of included walls and allowed projections of video images. In «Mob» one sees three groups of young men taking part in what seems to be a hard to determine choreography of movements in a sports hall. Laterally, the players’ work overalls of different colors are stitched one to the other, so that no one person is able to move independent of the others. Their playful struggle and laughter bring to mind the friendly bonding of young people at the same work site. But, at the same time, it reminds us of structures drawn from the professional sports world, for example in the former GDR, and the constantly-revised definition of current social structures which emerge from businesses and work conditions. After a while, the rules of the game played here are actually grasped. In three groups, the young men are trying to play soccer and, of course, they fail, due to the limited radius of action and their trousers being stitched together. The static picture captured by the camera puts forward the questions of a possible individual radius of action, and of our view being limited by the media showing us only an excerpt of the real event.
