 Nan Hoover
«Performance»

In Nan Hoover’s performance works, the rigidly contemplative manner instigates highly subjective associations and creates an intensified awareness of the body and light. The minimalist treatment of her material, color, and light—also as electronic light—and her slow studies of movement, open towards a spiritual space by concentrating on the «contrasts between the scale of the human form and its shadows» (Hoover). In this way the performance stage encloses the space of the viewer, who become an immobile figure a part of the staging, and who also feels transported back to the cavern of Plato, whose work Hoover even quotes: «Consider nothing truer than shadows.»
