Audio Ballerinas

«Speaker's Container»

Along with the object-like interactive sound-jackets and sound-tutus, other works also involve the audience directly. In 'Audio Mailboxes' (1985), the tenants of an apartment building put their own sound recordings in each other's mailboxes, thus fostering the communicative situation of a neighborhood. 'Speaker's Container' operated with a more open interactive concept: visitors could call up a container on the phone and contact other visitors; no intential communication was the cause. The installation in a container implies a provisional character, the module of a building block of communication. Who speaks to whom about what is left to chance; but this chance also contains the possibility of an intense encounter.
