 Apolonija Sustersic
«Video Home Video Exchange»

Apolonija Sustersic has recently realized a work based on the principles of exchange as a «research project in communication» at the Kunstverein Münster. She was particularly interested in the social function of suburban architecture and its media representation in film. The installation «video home video exchange» allowed visitors to watch feature films chosen by Sustersic on the theme of urban/suburban quality like Ang Lee's «Ice Storm», David Lynch's «Blue Velvet», Rainer Werner Fassbinder's «Lola» or John Carpenter's «Halloween» on the spot. An advertisement in a daily paper invited town residents to make video tapes on the subject of house and garden available to the Kunstverein. In return they ware allowed to take one of the feature films home in exchange. The plan was then to award a prize to the 10 best home videos and sell them as a set of ten in the bookshop. But as only 15 videos were submitted, the prize was not awarded due to insufficient entries. She had previously run the project in a public branch of the Moderna Galerija in Ljubljana, where the exchange interaction worked very much better.
