 Helmar Frank

b 1933 in Waiblingen (D). Received his Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Stuttgart. From 1961 to 1963 Frank assisted the cybernetics research group «Lernende Automaten» (Educable Machines) at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. In 1963 he was offered the chair of information sciences (later cybernetics) at the Berlin College of Education, and developed its Institute for Cybernetics. In 1972, he accepted a chair at the Polytechnic Paderborn. He worked as a visiting professor with a salary and unlimited contract at the Technical University of Berlin and was later president of the International Science Academy (AIS) in San Marino (I). Since the 1950s, Frank has researched in the areas of information psychology (psycho-cybernetics) and information aesthetics, which are also subjects of his many publications. In 1997, together with Herbert Frank, he published «Aesthetic Information. An Introduction to Cybernetic Aesthetics.»
