General Idea was founded in 1969 in Toronto (CDN). After the death of Partz and Zontal, Bronson has continued using his own name.
AA Bronson
b 1946 in Vancouver (CDN). 1964 studies Architecture at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg (CDN). 1966 quits his studies and founds a commune and a «free school.» Produces stage designs and posters for the free ensemble of «Theatre Passe Muraille» in Toronto.
Felix Partz
b 1945 in Winnipeg as Ron Gabe. Studies at the University of Manitoba School of Fine Arts, a.o. with Kenneth Lochland. 1968 meets Bronson and Zontal in the Theatre Passe Muraille. Partz died in 1994 in Toronto caused by Aids.
Jorge Zontal
b 1944 in Parma (I). Studies of Architecture at the Dalhousie University in Halifax (CDN), but also of Film and Drama. 1968 he arrived in Toronto to shoot a film with some actors from the Theatre Passe Muraille. Zontal died 1994 in Toronto caused by Aids.
