Claus was one of the GDR's most radical non-conformist artists. He has been working on one work since the 1950s, which addresses language as a written image and sound process. He was not recognized under real Socialism, but he was always a convinced, utopian communist. For this reason 'Lautaggregat K' is also a work that takes a specific view of the world. His first speech operations date from the 50s, but it was not until 1993 that he was able to realize his idea of a spatial layer of sound, forming a 'sound aggregate', for a WDR radio play, using a special stereophonic system. This sound material also forms the basis for his 1995 installation, in which several speech processes run in parallel and can be mixed at an editing desk. These layers of sound correspond with his writing images, which are also spatially arranged on transparent film. They often deal with philosophical themes, while the sound process are intended to be experienced physically in the first place.
