«Murmuring Fields»

«How can online archives be employed not only metaphorically and virtually, but also physically and in reality as walk-in and tangible spaces of knowledge? This question is taken up as part of the newly developed Mixed Reality Method for the penetration and over-layering of physical and electronic spaces. [...] With the performance-related installation «Murmuring Fields» we developed from 1998 to 2000 an acoustic space for the theater, and a mixed-reality audio archive. Spaces for data and action were combined using an invisible tracking procedure (video camera interface). In the interactive, acoustic space of «Murmuring Fields,» while moving their bodies through the spatial structure, actors can play with this virtual-acoustic space as though playing an instrument.»
