«Projection Forum III»

Yana Milev's project for ‘documenta X' relates to her preoccupation with the subject of urbanization. Slides of the ravaged landscape presented by building sites in Berlin are projected from a rotating machine in the centre of the room. The projections glide through the room as a horizontal area of light at head height and, as a radial film frieze, feel their way around the walls. When the images hit the wall – the ‘public border' – they are out of focus. Visitors can, however, bring them into focus with the help of round ‘one-way screens' – the ‘private border' between the public and private realms. After use, the mobile screens can be marked with data and information and handed in at the A.O.B.B.M.E. checkpoint. Standing for Association of Black Box Multiple Environments, A.O.B.B.M.E. is related to the Institute for Applied Existential Research that Milev had founded in 1994.
