«Refiguration / Self-Hybridation»
In 1998 Orlan starts on a virtual tour of the world in search of aethestic standards of other civilizations. The portraits of the series «Self-Hybridisation» represent a fusion of criteria that belong to our epoch as well as to pre-columbian times (which saw a culture with various bodily deformations). Each generated image, digitally processed, corresponds a statue or a certain old mask.
