«Bewurstsein or Everybody will be taken care of – The Sausage Film»

For the exhibition ‘Bewurstsein oder für alle ist gesorgt' (Bewurstsein [‘Bewusstsein' = consciousness, ‘Wurst' = sausage], or Everybody will be taken care of), held in the gallery EIGEN+ART in Leipzig, I transformed the space into a shell for a single work of art, the installation ‘Sausage Machine'. Spectators were the object of withering sarcasm, as the art work pushed them to the edge of the room, the wall. The viewer could be said to have been pressed, squashed, incited, gobbled up. I produced ‘Der Wurstfilm' as a commentary on this installation. The film was first shown in 1987, at the opening of the exhibition in the same gallery.
