«In the Realm of the West Wind World»

Two white cloth flags hoisted at full mast blow towards each other in the wind of two fans. Video pictures of flags are projected onto the two real flags. The US flag, the Stars and Stripes, appears on the left-hand flag overlaid with pictures from outer space and of fighter planes. On the right-hand flag are the hammer and sickle of the Soviet Union on a red background together with a portrait of Mikhail Gorbachev. Günther is referring here to the political world order: although the fluttering flags, symbols of national identity and of two different ideological systems, are turned towards one another, they are blowing in opposite directions.
