 Laurie Anderson
«United States, Part 1-4»

«United States» is Laurie Anderson's first large-scale multimedia narration. It combines what today seems like the storyteller's almost archaic attitude with a wide range of audiovisual equipment. Words, signs and well-known media images appear as associative representations of an intensely recited text. The music has a mystery-ridden character and it places the story being told in the forefront. Even though Anderson's performances call for an extravagant use of multimedia equipment, instead of reflecting High Tech, they reflect more so an experience with profane, everyday media.
